Music education & musical fundamentals deeply considered
This section brings together two distinct strands of writing — practical and theoretical — which between them reflect the breadth of my interest in how music works and how it is taught.
The music education articles are grounded in classroom and studio experience — written for instrumental teachers, ensemble directors, and music educators who want practical, well-considered approaches to the challenges of teaching music.

The theory and analysis articles take a different direction — exploring the deeper relationships between acoustics, harmony, melody, and musical time. The Pythagoras series in particular is intended for anyone who wants to think seriously about the fundamentals of Western music, from first principles.

Both strands are free to read. Several of the education articles are also available as PDF downloads.
