Teaching & Professional Development
From classroom to concert hall – and everywhere in between.
My background spans music education in almost every form — instrumental teaching, group teaching, classroom music, teacher training, and school leadership. Having led Music departments in the UK, I spent several years as an international school principal in the Middle East and Asia, leading staff development programmes across a wide range of topics in various contexts.
That breadth of educational experience informs everything I do as a teacher and trainer.
Earlier, I had founded and directed a specialist peripatetic music teaching agency, working extensively with instrumental teachers across a range of settings. I was also a member of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music mentors’ panel on the CT ABRSM course — a practical endorsement of teaching skills that I continue to draw on.
“That is nothing less than a simply perfect presentation. You are a fantastic teacher.” 1
CPD for music teachers and schools
Workshops and consultations for instrumental teachers, classroom music teachers, and school music departments — covering group teaching, motivation, mixed-ability classes, lesson planning, and more. Particularly relevant for schools employing non-specialist primary teachers to deliver music, where practical, focused training can make a significant difference.
Online tuition — composition, orchestration, and arranging
One-to-one online sessions for composers, arrangers, and musicians wanting to develop their skills in these areas. Practical, focused, and tailored to where you are and where you want to get to.
“I can’t express how much I’ve enjoyed and learned from our work together… Your many years of study, composing, arranging etc., have made you a GREAT instructor, and I feel very fortunate to have found you.“ 2
Workshops and guest lectures
Available for university music departments, sixth-form colleges, specialist music schools, and conservatoires — on music education, ensemble development, teaching skills, or the theoretical strand of my writing.
“Clear, authoritative, simple and didactic explanation of a rather difficult-to-grasp topic. Bravo!” 3
“Brilliant analysis of what one might call the common thread of Western music.” 4
“That is nothing less than a simply perfect presentation. You are a fantastic teacher.” 5
