by Jeff Album – adapted & arranged for wind orchestra by Robert Lennon
Golden Ridge is a work by Seattle-based composer Jeff Album, whose music is celebrated for its cinematic sweep, lyrical warmth, and romantic sensibility. Expressive, atmospheric, and at times truly epic, the piece unfolds through moments of quiet intimacy and soaring climaxes with remarkable emotional power.
Robert Lennon first introduced Golden Ridge to a wider audience through his orchestral arrangement of Album’s original piano work — a version later recorded by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra. This new Wind Orchestra arrangement continues that journey, bringing the music to the vibrant international community of wind band performers and audiences.
The Arrangement
Scored for standard wind orchestra with string bass, the arrangement preserves the emotional breadth and symphonic character of the orchestral version while fully embracing the distinctive colours of the wind ensemble showcasing oboe, clarinet and flute soloists. Flowing woodwind textures shape the lyrical passages, expansive brass writing (the trombonists will love it!) drives the climactic moments, and the string bass provides warmth, resonance, and depth throughout.
For Conductors and Programmers
Golden Ridge makes a compelling concert feature, centrepiece, or closing work for more advanced wind ensembles and symphonic bands. Both emotionally engaging and audience-accessible, it appeals equally to listeners and performers.
This arrangement offers a rare opportunity for wind orchestras to perform a contemporary lyrical work of that has already demonstrated its impact in the symphonic repertoire.
